Energy And Water Resource Management

Since 2021, Gemfont has focused its energy and water resource management policy on two key priorities, with phased implementation based on defined timelines.

In 2025, the Group expanded the boundary of its carbon inventory to include the headquarters office building and Zhongli plant. Referencing Taiwan’s Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC), Gemfont also recalibrated its carbon reduction pathway.

1. Conduct a comprehensive review of energy- and water-related facilities and equipment, assess usage data and applications, and improve energy efficiency in phases.
2. Initiate green electricity procurement and supplier assessment, together with energy-saving measures and on-site renewable energy generation.
3. Short-term target: 28% carbon reduction by 2030.

Carbon Management

In 2021, with guidance from Deloitte Taiwan, Gemfont initiated a greenhouse gas inventory. The first phase focused on our Wugu plants, where Gemfont received the ISO 14064-1:2018 Greenhouse Gas Verification Statement issued by SGS in June 2022. The second phase of the inventory process began in Q4 2022. In 2025, the Group expanded the boundary of its carbon inventory to include the headquarters office building and Zhongli plant. Referencing Taiwan’s Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC), Gemfont also recalibrated its carbon reduction pathway.  The Key carbon reduction initiatives of Gemfont include:

1. Based on the ISO 14064-1:2018 inventory results, our carbon reduction task force has set short, medium and long-term targets, integrating them into the daily operations of every Gemfont employee.
2. Completed green electricity projects at our Tainan Logistics Center and Zhongli Production Logistics Center in 2022 and 2023.
3. Signed long-term green electricity supply contracts with suppliers in 2022.
4. In 2023, we updated the cooling system at our Wugu plant, replacing the water-cooled system with a inverter air-conditioning system, which is projected to achieve 36% in energy savings.
5. Starting in 2023, we are upgrading the lighting fixtures at our Wugu plants to energy-saving LED systems over a three-year period, with full completion expected by 2025.

Packaging Management

In recent years, global trends of reducing plastics, waste minimization and recycling have become environmental issues that enterprises must address proactively. Enhancing the sustainability of product packaging is a key focus for Gemfont. Our management team is expanding our inventory and review of daily office supplies, actively planning and executing reduction strategies and choosing environmentally friendly packaging materials.

1. For paper products (cardboard packaging, office paper, sanitary paper…etc.), we have converted to suppliers certified by FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) or PEFC (Program for the Endorsement of Forest Certification).
2. Initiated packaging reduction programs to cut down on unnecessary dividers, folded bags and strapping bands, expected to achieve 36%, 5%, and 5% packaging reductions, respectively.
3. Plastic packaging will be included in project discussions, with assessments and implementations of sustainable packaging initiatives while maintaining food safety as a top priority.

Workplace Health And Safety Management

Starting from 2022, Gemfont introduced on-site medical services in compliance with applicable occupational safety and health regulations. Through proactive care mechanisms, health promotion activities and maternity-friendly environments and measures, we ensure our employees feel cared for in all aspects of their physical and mental well-being.

In January 2024, Gemfont obtained ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management System certification, which helps us identify potential hazards, continually improve, and strive for zero risk and zero accidents to ensure a safe and healthy workplace and increase employee satisfaction.

Gemfont provides free annual health check-ups for its employees, with 70% of our workforce participating in standard health screenings, which include additional services such as colorectal and liver cancer screenings. Our comprehensive check-ups, including endoscopy and lung CT scans, serve approximately 30% of our employees annually. In addition to disease prevention, we will also enhance employee group life and medical insurance in 2024, offering superior healthcare and protection measures.

Employee compensation is evaluated based on education, experience, professional competency, performance and the Company’s operating conditions. To maintain competitiveness, we regularly survey industry compensation trends, assess operational performance and review economic indicators to adjust salary standards accordingly.
