As Gemfont continues its steady growth trajectory, we look to the future with a strategic focus on sustainability. In alignment with the global goal of limiting temperature rise to 1.5°C (SR1.5) and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), we began formulating our sustainability goals in 2021, setting clear targets and actionable plans.

Climate change has become one of the most pressing challenges of our time, and the world is united in its goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. At Gemfont, we have already taken significant steps by conducting greenhouse gas inventories and formulating robust carbon reduction strategies. With the completion of solar photovoltaic power systems and long-term renewable energy supply contracts, Gemfont operations have been powered with renewable energy since 2023 and we aim to achieve our carbon reduction target with 100% renewable energy use by 2025.

On our energy and water resource management policies, Gemfont has been focused on optimizing our energy and water resource management policies since 2021, guided by two key directions and a prioritized timeline.
In 2021, with guidance from Deloitte Taiwan, Gemfont initiated a greenhouse gas inventory. The first phase focused on our Wugu plants, where Gemfont received the ISO 14064-1:2018 Greenhouse Gas Verification Statement issued by SGS in June 2022. The second phase of the inventory process began in Q4 2022. In recent years, global trends of reducing plastics, waste minimization and recycling have become environmental issues that enterprises must address proactively. Enhancing the sustainability of product packaging is a key focus for Gemfont. Our management team is expanding our inventory and review of daily office supplies, actively planning and executing reduction strategies and choosing environmentally friendly packaging materials.

Since 2013, Gemfont’s laboratories have been TAF-certified as a testing laboratory and recognized by the Ministry of Health and Welfare for food inspection.
In 2021, we launched a Level 2 Biosafety Laboratory that meets ANSI/NSF49 international standards. This lab is equipped with BSC biosafety cabinets, allowing us to handle RG2 food pathogens. Gemfont is among the selected few food materials suppliers in Taiwan with such advanced biosafety facilities.
In 2024, we will establish our second Quality Assurance Laboratory in Zhongli, expanding its scale by 1.5 times.

Starting from 2022, Gemfont introduced on-site medical services in compliance with applicable occupational safety and health regulations. Through proactive care mechanisms, health promotion activities and maternity-friendly environments and measures, we ensure our employees feel cared for in all aspects of their physical and mental well-being.
In January 2024, Gemfont obtained ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management System certification, which helps us identify potential hazards, continually improve, and strive for zero risk and zero accidents to ensure a safe and healthy workplace and increase employee satisfaction.
Gemfont provides free annual health check-ups for its employees, with 70% of our workforce participating in standard health screenings, which include additional services such as colorectal and liver cancer screenings. Our comprehensive check-ups, including endoscopy and lung CT scans, serve approximately 30% of our employees annually. In addition to disease prevention, we will also enhance employee group life and medical insurance in 2024, offering superior healthcare and protection measures.

The Zhongli Production Logistics Center, which will be officially inaugurated in 2024, has incorporated sustainable environmental principles into its design from the planning stage.
